The Inter-American Development Bank lent Guatemala $22 million to finance a program to register land and protect environmentally sensitive areas.

The money will be used to create a database of protected areas.

It is hoped that the database will eliminate uncertainty over land rights that has led to conflicts and environmental degradation in several areas.
