Panama Canal bids to be opened next Wednesday

The Panama Canal Authority said that on July 8 it will open the envelopes containing the bids for the largest contract of the multi-billion dollar canal expansion.

Technical evaluations of the three consortiums that are contending for the contract will be presented on the same day.

The final decision will be taken on both technical and financial grounds. The winning bid is expected to be announced within weeks. The contract in dispute is budgeted at $3.3 billion.
