Crisis in the coffee groves as world prices go bust
Thursday, August 30, 2018
For almost two years, prices of coffee arabica "milds" --those produced by Central America and Colombia-- have fallen from 160 cents per pound in November 2016 to less than 100 in recent days.
Producers are seeking aid but have failed to present a united front, and most governments have been less than generous.
However, the Colombian government and the nation's association of growers have announced a $33 million plan to support the farmers and their families.
