Mining helped save Nicaraguan economy

A strong mining sector performance and slow imports helped Nicaragua's trade deficit to drop only 0.3 percent in the first half of the year.
However, the country's total exports dropped 9 percent.
The mining sector's exports in the first half reached $228 million, or 13.8 percent more than the same period last year, the central bank of Nicaragua said.
