$4.4 billion is export target for assembly plants in Honduras

Thursday, August 9, 2018

The export-oriented assembly plants of Honduras aim to earn $4.4 billion in export earnings this year, according to leaders of the sector. Last year, they achieved $4.1 billion.

The growth projection is due mainly to the buoyancy of the US economy, which is the main market for the plants, known in Spanish as maquiladoras.

Some 80 percent of maquiladoras are from the textile and garment industry. The others make wire harnesses for the auto industry.
