4G auction in Guatemala

Monday, August 20, 2018

Guatemala is planning a 2019 auction of 4G mobile transmission service.

With a speed higher than 10 megabits per second, 4G lets users send heavy files such as video or large graphics.

The system would operate under the standards of Advanced Wireless Services in the electromagnetic spectrum segment from 1710 to 1755 Megahertz to upload, and from 2110 to 2155 MHz to download.

The AWS system for voice, data and messaging services operates in several Latin American countries, including Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru, and Uruguay, as well the United States.

Availability of 4G service is limited in Guatemala, where 3G predominates at a speed of around 1 megabit per second.

At the end of last year, the main Guatemalan operators were Tigo, with half the market of some 18 million lines, and Claro and Movistar, each with a quarter, according to Soy502.com.
