Alert in US over diarrhea medicine made in El Salvador

A medicine made in El Salvador caused the US Food and Drug Administration, FDA, to raise an alert to consumers.
The medicine, called Intestinomicina, is a treatment for infectious diarrhea, and is sold over the counter in ethnic supermarkets and stores that cater for Latin American customers.
The main cause of concern is Chloramphenycol, a substance known to interfere with the production of red and white blood cells, which could be fatal for patients with low blood pressure and anemia.
