Amnet gets green light to buy Telefónica in El Salvador

El Salvador's business competition authority announced the authorization for the purchase of Spain's Telefonica's fixed line and internet division by Amnet.

Since 2008, Amnet has belonged to Millicom International, headquartered in Luxembourg. In El Salvador and other Latin American countries it operates its Tigo brand, while Telefonica uses its Movistar brand.

Other mobile operators in El Salvador include Ireland's Digicel and Mexico's América Móvil.
