Banks double their presence in Guatemala

Friday, November 4, 2011

Although the capital’s metropolitan area has more bank branches than any other region of Guatemala, in the last five years, the banks have doubled their presence throughout the country.

In 2006, there were 10.6 branches for each 100,000 inhabitants, but by the end of last year there were 20.7.

However, the percentage of the population that has a bank account remains at the relatively low level of 25 percent.
