Big-hitters Amazon and Tigo launch double act in region

The first content offered by an alliance of Amazon and Millicom International is being offered to clients of cable TV and mobile internet in Guatemala and Colombia. Millicom's Tigo brand has a powerful presence in the region.

Luciano Marino, Millicom's vice-president for consumer affairs, told Forbes that some years ago Millicom had an alliance with Netflix, but that was a short-lived promotion. The deal with Amazon Prime is the real deal he said.

The alliance will soon begin to extend to the rest of Central America, with plans for fixed internet, television and prepaid cellphone plans as a complementary service with a monthly charge of the equivalent of about six dollars.
