Brazil’s Eletrobras aims to start work on 250-megawatt hydro plant in Nicaragua

Wednesday, August 25, 2010

Eletrobras plans to start work by November on a 250-megawatt hydroelectric power plant in southern Nicaragua, the Brazilian state-owned utility company’s president said.

“It’ll be the first project in Eletrobras’s foreign expansion,” Jose Antonio Muniz Lopes told a Rio de Janeiro weekly.

The winning bidder for the construction and operation of the Tumarin hydroelectric power plant was a consortium led by Eletrobras and privately owned Brazilian firm Queiroz Galvao.
