Business chiefs plan trans-peninsular train in Mexico

Friday, September 20, 2013

Tourism business leaders from the Mexican states of Yucatán and Quintana Roo have proposed a trans-peninsular rail system between the cities of Mérida and Cancun.

The project differs from the original proposal which was to connect Mérida with Punta Venado, in an attempt to take advantage of the number of tourists who visit Cancun.

"Yucatán can increase its tourism by connecting the city of Mérida with the Cancun International Airport," said the vice president of the Tourism Business Council, José Chapur Zahoul.
