Canal contributes $1.7 billion to Panama state treasury

The Panama Canal has contributed $1.7 billion to the state Treasury in the current fiscal year, reported Jorge Luis Quijano, the Canal administrator.

Quijano said that "this is the largest amount that the Canal has ever contributed to the Treasury. He also confirmed that he will be retiring soon.

The accounts for the Canal for the current fiscal year show a profit of $1.2 million, as approved by the board.
