Carlos Slim Foundation in talks on Central America

Wednesday, June 21, 2017

In a potential expansion of its charity work, Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim Helú is looking into a possible partnership with the U.S. government to try to curb illegal immigration from Central American's most troubled countries by tackling violence and creating job opportunities in Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador, according to media reports confirmed by the parties involved.

"We are having talks but there is no agreement signed, nor is there a Memorandum of Understanding or anything like it," Arturo Elías Ayub, Slim's spokesperson and son-in-law, told me via email.
