Carlos Slim scores a goal against television rivals

Friday, September 7, 2012

The fight between Mexican mogul Carlos Slim and the country's two dominant television broadcasters has moved into the soccer arena.

Slim spokesman Arturo Elias Ayub said Thursday that the billionaire has struck deals for the television rights to games of the Leon soccer team that his America Movil company bought 30 percent of along with transmission rights.

Slim doesn't have rights to transmit content by broadcast television or cable TV. But his move puts him in competition with Televisa and TV Azteca, the television giants with rights to the rest of Mexican soccer's first division.
