Tuesday, March 22, 2011

Cemex Costa Rica, a unit of the Mexican cement company, reduced carbon dioxide emissions by 12 percent between 2008 and last year.

The reduction amounted to 40,000 metric tons. It was achieved by cutting down the use of fossil fuels and using rice husks and sawdust instead.

The biomass reduced the company’s consumption of fossil fuels by one third.
