Central America is a standout in remittances

Remittances to Central America in 2012 grew 6.5 percent, according to the Inter-American Development Bank.

The number is high if it is compared to the rest of Latin America, where remittances dropped by 1 percent in countries like Mexico.

Mexico was still the country which received most remittances, with $22.4 billion, followed by Guatemala with $4.8 billion, Colombia with $4 billion and El Salvador with $3.9 billion.
