Central America receives $61 billion as remittances bounce back from recession

Remittances to Central America grew 6 percent during 2011, reaching $61 billion, the inter-American Development Bank reported.

The growth means remittances are at similar levels as before the 2009 world economic crisis.

Remittances from the United States make up three quarters of the total received by Central America. The second main source is Spain.
