Central American melons highly rated by US importers. Hopes for end to lingering effects of listeria outbreak

US importers hope excellent melon quality from Central America can take the edge off lingering effects from a listeria outbreak linked to cantaloupes.

Florida-based Ayco Farms began shipping cantaloupes and personal watermelons from Guatemala and the quality is exceptional.

It remains to be seen, however, how much the listeria outbreak would affect demand for the Central American fruit. But so far, signs were positive.
