Climate change hits Panama economy

Wednesday, November 19, 2014

Climate change is affecting several sectors of the Panamanian economy, said Iván Barria, director of the energy firm Empresa de Transmisión Eléctrica.

The most affected sectors are agriculture, food security and water, he added.

The worst effect is due to a drought that has swept the region, and has taken its toll on Panama's agriculture, Barria said.
