Cloud services expand

Tigo Business, a subsidiary of Millicom, last month entered into an alliance with Microsoft to offer cloud computing for Central American enterprises.

The joint service will offer virtual desktop, security systems, data storage, account management, and payment programs, using the Microsoft Azure platform.

Tigo, which operates in operates in Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua, will be authorized to sell licenses of Microsoft Cloud Solutions Provider.

Tigo Business products include Machine to Machine, an Internet of Things program, with applications such as fleet management systems, which track location and deliveries, as well as remotely-operated security cameras.

Latin America accounts for 85 percent of revenue for Millicom, a telecom and media company, which offers a range of digital services to some 60 million customers in fourteen markets in Africa and Latin America, primarily under the Tigo brand.

Founded in 1990, the Luxembourg-based company in 2014 reported $2.8 billion of net profit on revenue of $6.3 billion.
