Cobre Panamá's $6 billion contract cleared by officials

The validity of the $6 billion contract that First Quantum Minerals of Canada is building has been confirmed by the government of Panama.

The Supreme Court issued a verdict on Monday that said the law used to sign the contract was in breach of the Constitution, but the government pointed out that the judgement referred not to the contract itself but only to the law in which it was framed.

In any case, legal expert said that the Supreme Court ruling could not be retroactive.
