Coffee in Nicaragua: a crisis within the crisis

Wednesday, August 29, 2018

The government had high expectations for production and exports in the 2018-19 coffee harvest, but what looks more likely is a big drop in the harvest as a result because of the nation's political and economic crisis as well as the fall in coffee prices.

According to the government, the area to be planted to the crop is expected to be 10 percent greater than last year.

However, Aura Lila Sevilla, a leader of the growers, says the harvest has been in crisis since the last crop and the drop in international prices has made matters worse.
