Coffee producers face rapid slide in world prices

The price of the coffee produced by Central American producers has fallen by almost 40 percent this year in world markets, the International Coffee Organization reports.

In January, the price was 287 US cents per pound: now it is 169 per pound.

Even so, the prices are much higher now than they were in the early years of the century, when they stood at less than 70 US cents per pound.
