Convenience stores fuel competition in Costa Rica

Costa Rican firms Auto Mercado, Inversiones AMPM and Florida Ice & Farm are increasing their competition in the convenience store sector, Costa Rican daily La República reported.

Over the last year, some 30 convenience stores have been opened in the country, responding to consumers' needs of having a store closer to their homes.

However, Walmart, which operates in Costa Rica with its Palí and Mas X Menos brands, continues to focus on large supermarket formats, including Walmart megastores.
