Copa Holdings reports 48 percent increase in third-quarter profit on lower costs

Copa Holdings, parent company of Copa Airlines and Copa Airlines Colombia, reported a 48 percent rise in profit for the third quarter, reflecting an improvement in margins on lower costs per available seat mile.
 
Quarterly earnings per share came in ahead of estimates, while revenues missed expectations.
 
Copa Holdings' net income for the third quarter rose 48.2 percent to $63.9 million or $1.45 per share from $43.1 million or $0.98 per share in the year-ago period.
