Costa Rica business leaders want new electricity law and lower tariffs

High energy costs are sharply reducing the competitiveness of Costa Rican companies, so business leaders are asking the nation's new president, Carlos Alvarado, to look beyond the interest of the state power utility, the ICE.

Alvarado so far has opposed providing the private sector a greater share in the provision of power.
