Costa Rica coffee exports down 10 percent in 2009-2010, says Icafé

Monday, October 4, 2010

Costa Rica closed its 2009/10 coffee harvest with 1,193,686 60-kg bags of exports, nearly 10 percent less than the same cycle of the previous season, the country's coffee institute, Icafé, said.

Global supplies of high-quality arabica beans, like those grown in Central America, are tight ahead of the next harvest, which begins next month, helping to push prices to record highs in recent weeks.

In September, Costa Rica exported 12,343 60-kg bags of coffee.
