Costa Rica 'could face strike like never before'

Wednesday, December 19, 2018

Next year Costa Rica could see a strike by public-sector workers bigger than this year's, said Albino Vargas, leader of the sector's trade union.

Progress on the government's cuts that include the elimination of generals wage perks will unleash a strike of dimensions that Costa Rica has never seen before, said Vargas.

The forecast of an unprecedented conflict could prove to be accurate given the government's determination to reduce the fiscal deficit and promote structural reforms with which the labor movement is in disagreement.
