Costa Rica is first in English proficiency

 

Costa Rica is first in the region, and 38th globally in English proficiency, according to Education First.

In Latin America, only Argentina (19th) and Uruguay in 36th place worldwide outperform Costa Rica.

Panama is second in the isthmus, while El Salvador is last in the ranking, which does not include Honduras or Nicaragua.

Globally, Netherlands is the country with highest English proficiency, while Iraq is last.

The index includes 72 countries whose native language is not English (numbers in brackets indicate the global position of each country).
