Costa Rica leads region in contraband liquor sales
Costa Rica is faced with being Latin America's number one seller of contraband liqour, Costa Rican daily La República reported.
Two out of 10 alcoholic drinks sold in Costa Rica reach consumers through contraband, the highest number in the region, according to a study by Euromonitor.
The main reason behind the increase is a change in the law that reduced fear in smugglers, as it rules that contraband goods worth $50,000 or less will not face prison sentences.
