Costa Rica leads region in rule of law

In 25th position out of 113 countries, Costa Rica is first in Central America and second in Latin America in citizen perception of respect for rule of law, according to the 2016 index published by the Washington D.C.-based.

In Latin America, only Uruguay in 20th place finished ahead of Costa Rica.

Panama is second in In Central America, and 62th overall, while Nicaragua in 101st position worldwide is last n the region.

Globally, Denmark is best in perception of criminal justice, while Venezuela is worst.

The study measures corruption, respect for fundamental rights, order and security, regulatory enforcement and civil justice (numbers in brackets indicate each country’s position in the global ranking).
