Costa Rica mega-hydroelectric project is under threat from indigenous demands

Wednesday, March 30, 2011

The Diquís hydroelectric project that is vital to Costa Rica’s plans to meet energy demand by 2021, is faced by a land dispute.

The Térraba indigenous group last week accused the state power company of robbing 900 hectares of its land.

Diquís, rated at 620 megawatts, is the biggest electricity project ever attempted by Costa Rica.
