Costa Rica names Ayales as new finance minister

Wednesday, April 18, 2012

Costa Rica's President Laura Chinchilla announced the appointment of Edgar Ayales as new finance minister. He will assume the post on May 1.

Ayales will replace Fernando Herrero, who resigned weeks ago after local press spread alleged irregularities in his tax declaration.

Ayales is an experienced economist with degree studies in Britain's Kent University. He has served in the International Monetary Fund and the Inter-American Development Bank.
