Costa Rica on pace for near-record $700 million in banana sales for this year

Costa Rica has posted a 20 percent increase in banana exports in 2010, and expects to continue the upward trend in 2011.

Exports of the fruit in the first 10 months of 2010 have been valued at $602.4 million, compared with $502.9 million during the same period last year.

Foreign sales could reach $700 million by the end of 2010, one of the highest amounts in Costa Rica’s history.
