Costa Rica opens new sugar markets in Russia and Sri Lanka with boost to exports

Costa Rica’s sugar production rose by 7.91 percent in the 2009-2010 harvest. The increased opened new export markets in Russia and Sri Lanka.
The 2009-2010 harvest, that ended in May, produced 7.55 million 50- kilo sacks, up from 7 million in the previous cycle.
The upcoming 2010-2011 harvest is expected to produce even more. As a result, further export markets are to be explored.
