Costa Rica’s bill for traffic accidents is now $86 million a year

The cost of treating traffic accidents in Costa Rica rose last year to $86 million, an annual increase of 56 percent, and a high proportion of those injured were motorcyclists.

The toll was in part due to a big increase in the volume of vehicles on the roads. But the other big problem is the government’s foot-dragging on improvements to the nation’s highways.
