Costa Rica’s tourist industry still struggles to overcome the 2009 economic crisis

Wednesday, September 1, 2010

The 2009 economic crisis is still having an impact on Costa Rica’s tourism industry, despite the efforts of the government and hotels to draw more visitors.

In the first six months of this year, some 1.12 million tourists arrived, about 10 percent more than in the same period of last year but 2 percent down in 2008, before the crisis.

The tourists who are coming to Costa Rica are also spending less than they were, industry sources add.
