Costa Rica seeks $9 billion for growth in clean energy

Thursday, July 8, 2010

Costa Rica aims to be Central America’s leader on clean energy. The target is to remove dependence on crude oil by no less than 10 years.

The aim of the country’s new electricity plan is to promote the private sector in the financing and production of energy projects, as long as they used renewable sources.

During the coming decade, Costa Rica is expected to double electricity production by 2,400 megawatts. Investment is slated for $9 billion.
