Costa Rica to double its number of cellphones

Monday, May 16, 2011

Hopes for a major boost to the Costa Rican economy are based on the removal of the state’s cellphone monopoly.

Not only are hopes based on revenue of $1 billion a year but also on a target of 130 percent of market penetration in phones.

These were the projections on Friday when the final stage was concluded in the award of the cellphone concessions with the signing of the contract by Mexico’s América Móvil.
