Costa Rican cellphone market valued at $1.3 billion

Costa Rica has shot up the telecommunications rankings since opening the market one and a half years ago, local newspaper La República reported.

The cellular phone penetration rate has reached 130 percent, meaning that there are 1.3 cellphones for every person in the country.

The cellphone market in Costa Rica is estimated to generate $1.3 billion, 9 percent more than in 2011.
