Costa Rican legislators give first reading to free trade agreement with China

Friday, March 4, 2011

By a 42-53 vote, Costa Rica’s Legislative Assembly approved a free trade agreement with China in first debate.

Costa Rica broke diplomatic relations with Taiwan in favour of China in 2007.

As part of establishment of diplomatic relations, China built and donated a new Costa Rican national stadium at a cost of $83 million.
