Costa Rican producers of sugarcane aim for better harvest after last year's rains

Monday, February 20, 2012

Costa Rican sugarcane producers expect a better harvest this year, after sugar production dropped during the 2010-2011 period.

The drop was caused by heavy rainfall and the need to renew plantations in order to increase productivity.

Good weather this year has allowed to predict a production of 7.6 million bags of sugar of 50 kilos each for the 2011-2012 period, according to Edgar Herrera, director of the country's sugar cane authority.
