Costa Rican public-sector finances are ticking time-tomb

Much of the Costa Rican government’s budget for next year is perfectly reasonable. But the government’s own expenses are not all reasonable, not least the big boost in salaries for public servants.

Public spending has become a ticking time-bomb. And it’s not necessarily the fault of the current government. A good part of the blame has to be laid at the administrations of Oscar Arias and Laura Chinchilla.
