Costa Rican state-sector chiefs reduce their own salaries

Ana Lucía Fernández, general manager of Costa Rica's National Insurance Institute has reduced her salary from $18,000 to $16,700 in order to help President Carlos Alvarado's campaign to cut public spending.

Elían Villegas, the institute's executive president is understood to be announcing on Monday that its top executives face a four-year pay freeze.
