All Central American countries are in the bottom half of the world, according to this month’s Net Index ranking of internet download speed.

Except for Panama, with an average speed of 5.6 megabits per second, the rest of the region is in the bottom third,

The global average is 16.2 Mbps.

El Salvador has the slowest connections in Central America, at 2.8 Mbps.

Hong Kong is number one in the world, with average speed of 70 Mbps, while average dowload speed in Burkina Faso, the slowest country, is less than a megabit.

The ranking surveys 186 countries (figures in parentheses refer to the overall position of the countries of Central America).
