The fight against crime cost Guatemala $6.73 billion last year.
The figure represents 8 percent of the country's gross domestic product.
Guatemala was number 109 out of 162 in a study called Global Peace index 2013, and fifth in Latin America after El Salvador, Honduras, Venezuela and Colombia.
