Declan Ryan flies through the region
It’s not always clear how, but airline investor Declan Ryan is making moves in the region, including his appointment last month as President of Viva Air, which operates the low-cost carrier VivaColombia, according to Finance Colombia.
Ryan continues as Chairman of Viva Air, whose website refers to flights in Peru, following the launch last May of Viva Air Peru, described as a subsidiary of Irelandia Aviation by the Financial Times.
The Irelandia website for its part indicates a participation by the company in the operations of low-cost carriers Allegiant Air in the United States, Tiger Airways in Asia, Ryanair in Europe, and VivaAerobus in Mexico.
However, the site does not refer to Viva Air Peru, and is unclear as to the nature of the relationship between Irelandia and the other affiliates.
Grupo IAMSA (Inversiones en Autotransportes Mexicanos) announced last December that it had acquired Irelandia’s interest in VivaAerobus.
Declan Ryan in 2003 resigned as a director of Ryanair, one of Europe’s biggest low-cost carriers.
He is one of three sons of Ryanair co-founder, Tony Ryan, who died in 2007.
Ryanair started operations in1985.
