The increase in the minimum price per case of Costa Rican bananas could decide Del Monte Fresh Produce to abandon the country.
If Del Monte opts to go, almost 9,000 jobs would be lost. The management of Del Monte Fresh Produce believes there might be no option to leave Costa Rica in view of the problems it faces, specially with the banana industry, that it faces as a result of currency fluctuations and high costs.
