Despite problems, S&P gives Guatemala all-clear

Wednesday, October 31, 2018

Despite the tribulations of the Guatemalan economy, the Standard and Poor's agency confirmed the country's credit rating as BB- with a stable perspective.

S&P said the rating was the result of moderate fiscal deficits and the country's positive external accounts, as reflected in the current account surplus.

However, the agency did note the recurrence of political instability and the weakness of the government's institutions.
